And the journey begins

This whole blogging thing is new for me...but hey look at me go. Already personalizing it and everything! Here is a quick summary overview of how I ended up with this certain opportunity sitting on my lap.

We've all heard it before..."a friend of a friend of a friend" was my connection with this sweet deal. I knew I wanted to use my nursing degree and my spanish degree. I also knew that I wasn't quite ready for a "real" job with a set schedule and all. So, what to do? I asked around and did some research and found a Parish run clinic in La Paz, Bolivia (the highest elevated capital in the world). Two nuns that worked there agreed to care for me in exchange for my labor at the clinic (if you are interested here is the site for the clinic http://www.saludintegral.org/en/main.html). Originally I wanted to live somewhere for six months. But come on, I had to be realistic, it is unpaid and I eventually will need to get a job and pay those lovely school loans awaiting my speedy return to the states.

My current standing now is awaiting my departure flight to Bolivia July 6th. I will volunteer there for two months, doing anything I can. From nursing skills, to daycare, to geriatric, to home visits, to chilling with some Bolivians (maybe even school them in some soccer/ or as they say futbol). I am excited and nervous for my adventure to begin. This isn't through a program, I don't know anyone, it is in a country landlocked and elevated 12,000 ft high, and I'm living with nuns (no not a convent, just some motherly nun's--two of them at that, Anitawa and Janet). I can't wait for this adventure to begin. Like I said, you can't let some opportunities pass you by...who knows what I will learn! The future unknown is both terrifying and intriguing! I will post weekly blogs about my work and experiences when in Bolivia. Keep up and feel free to keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin to journey down to Bolivia but up in elevation (if that made sense)!
